LAS VEGAS (February 2023) – The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces February programs and promotions, including its 11^th anniversary free day celebration and limited-time display of all known evidence from the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, including the newly acquired and only firearm recovered from the crime scene. Additionally, The Underground speakeasy and distillery invites guests to enjoy cocktails, cocktail specials and weekly live music.

THE MUSEUM’S FEBRUARY PROGRAMS AND PROMOTIONS FOLLOW:

11th Anniversary Free Admission and Special Presentation of Newly Acquired Artifacts
Date: Tuesday, Feb. 14
Time: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Location: The Mob Museum
Cost: Free admission for Nevada residents with an I.D. and buy one, get one admission for all non-residents
Description: The Museum will celebrate its 11^th anniversary with free admission for Nevadans and a special temporary display of newly acquired artifacts, including personal artifacts from Chicago mobster Al Capone and the complete collection of evidence from the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, including the newly acquired and only firearm recovered from the crime scene. In addition, the two Thompson submachine guns used in the Massacre will be displayed in the Courtroom as part of the anniversary event, courtesy of the Berrien County, Michigan Sheriff’s Department.

The Museum will display four newly acquired artifacts from Chicago mobster Al Capone in the historic Courtroom:

• Al Capone Home Movie capturing life in and around his Miami Beach mansion.
• Al Capone Handwritten Letter relating to Prohibition.
• Al Capone Letter from Eastern State Penitentiary.
• Al Capone Letter to Son While in Alcatraz.

For the first time since the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre 94 years ago, all known evidence from the horrific gangland shooting will be together on view. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. visitors can take advantage of this limited opportunity to get an up-close look at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre artifacts on display in the historic Courtroom, including:

• Frank Gusenberg’s Colt Detective Special .38 Revolver, the only firearm recovered from the scene of the Massacre.
• Two Thompson Submachine Guns recovered from Fred “Killer” Burke’s Michigan home 10 months after the Massacre. Members of Berrien County, Michigan’s Sheriff’s Department, where the guns have been stored since they were recovered, will be on site to discuss the weapons and Massacre. Please note these two weapons will be on display for this day only.

Guests can also view evidence from the Massacre on display year-round on the Museum’s third floor, including:

• The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Wall, the centerpiece of the exhibit.
• Bullets removed from the bodies of the seven victims.
• Bullet fragments and cartridge cases collected from the garage floor.
• Test bullets fired from the Tommy guns later proved to have been used in the Massacre.
• Original coroner’s documents concerning the victims.
• Reports prepared by the “Father of Ballistics” Calvin Goddard, who used pioneering ballistics testing techniques to identify the weapons used in the crime.

Museum educators will be available to provide insights and answer questions about these artifacts.​

Description: The Mob Museum will offer visitors a second limited opportunity to view newly acquired artifacts from the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and from mobster Al Capone before they go on permanent display at a later date. The artifacts available for viewing during this event will include:

A Night at the Moulin Rouge: Celebrating the Iconic Las Vegas Resort Through Memories and Music
Date: Thursday, Feb. 23
Time: 7 to 9:15 p.m.
Location: Inside the historic Courtroom on the second floor.
Cost: Tickets to this event are sold out.
Description: As the first racially integrated resort in Las Vegas, the Moulin Rouge was the talk of the town when it opened in 1955. In recognition of Black History Month, The Mob Museum and Harrison House will revisit the hotel’s shining moments and social influence in a multifaceted program featuring storytelling, music and dance. In addition to a panel discussion, the event will include performances by local singers, musicians and dancers reminiscent of a night in the Moulin Rouge lounge. The program and pop-up display of historic Moulin Rouge memorabilia, which will be on view throughout the evening, is sponsored by The Stephen Lackey Philanthropic Trust.

• Anna Bailey, the first Black woman to work as a dancer on the Las Vegas Strip.
• Katherine Duncan, a leading force in developing business opportunities as the founder and president of the Las Vegas Ward 5 Chamber of Commerce. Duncan also serves as the vice president of community development at the Harrison House Las Vegas.
• Manny Davis, adopted son of the late Sammy Davis Jr. and head of the Sammy Davis Jr. estate.
• Shakala Alvaranga, director of public programs, The Mob Museum.

National Pisco Sour Day
Date: Thursday, Feb. 2 through Sunday, Feb. 5

Description: With its popularity dating back to the 1920s, the invention of the Pisco Sour is credited to an unlikely figure: Mormon American Victor Vaughen Morris. Morris moved to Peru to follow wealthy Utah resident A.W. McCune after he had facilitated a mining contract in the Andes. Morris opened a bar and ran out of whiskey during an event celebrating the completion of a railway. To save the celebration, Morris improvised a new drink using Peru’s signature spirit – Pisco.

National Chocolate Mint Day
Date: Thursday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 19

Description: This National Chocolate Mint Day enjoy The Mob Museum’s limited-edition Peppermint Moonshine in a spin on the ever-popular espresso martini. Crafted with Crème de Cacao, The Mob Museum’s Peppermint Moonshine and espresso, this cocktail epitomizes National Chocolate Mint Day.

National Margarita Day
Date: Wednesday, Feb. 22 through Sunday, Feb. 26

Description: It started with a daisy. After all, that is what margarita means in Spanish. Originally made with brandy, then tequila, many cocktail aficionados believe the citrusy tequila daisy is the precursor to the modern margarita. On National Margarita Day, enjoy a tequila daisy, made with tequila reposado, lemon juice, house-made grenadine, simple syrup and egg white.

Secret Membership Cocktail – Remember the Maine
Date: Throughout February
Time: Available Monday through Wednesday from noon to 10 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday from noon to midnight.

Description: The Remember the Maine cocktail is named after the U.S.S. Maine, a battleship that sank in 1898 in Havana, Cuba. The cocktail first appeared in 1939 in “The Gentleman’s Companion” by Charles H. Baker. The libation includes Legent Bourbon, sweet vermouth, Heering Cherry Liqueur and Absinthe. The Underground is an immersive Prohibition history exhibition featuring a speakeasy, distillery and private VIP room in the basement of The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement.
