THE MOB MUSEUM ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY, MARCH PROGRAMS

LAS VEGAS (January 2020) – The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its roster of public programs for February and March.

The Mob Museum Eighth Anniversary: Free admission for Nevada residents, St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Exhibit and Car Show

  • Date: Friday, Feb. 14
  • Time:
    • Massacre exhibit: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Car show: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Live music by Amanda King: 9 p.m.
  • Location:
    • The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Exhibit will be in this Historic Courtroom on the second floor.
    • Car show located in lot behind the Museum.
  • Cost: Free for Nevada residents with a valid ID and buy-one-get-one for non-residents thanks to Zappos’ generous support.
  • Description: The Mob Museum celebrates its eighth anniversary with free admission for Nevada residents, buy-one-get-one admission for non-residents and two dynamic exhibits: a complimentary Ford Model A car show featuring Prohibition-era vehicles and a display of crime scene evidence from Chicago’s infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. At least 15 classic cars from the Model A Ford Club of America and Las Vegas Cadillac Club will be parked outside the Museum, where guests can photograph and sit inside them, as well as interact with their owners. Meanwhile, an array of artifacts selected from the Museum’s extensive St. Valentine’s Day Massacre collection will be displayed in the courtroom for viewing. All day, guests will receive 20 percent off food and beverages in The Underground of The Mob Museum as well as enjoy live jazz music playing Prohibition-era tunes at the car show and inside The Underground. Performing in The Underground will be Amanda King, who combines the best of the jazz and cabaret worlds by applying her creative interpretation of the words, the music and the swing.

Free Community Safety Forum: Gang awareness

  • Date: Sunday, Feb. 16
  • Time: 2 to 3 p.m.
  • Location: In the Historic Courtroom on the second floor.
  • Cost: Free, including free Museum admission, thanks to sponsorship provided by NV Energy. The Mob Museum will provide live streaming of the presentations online.
  • Description: Protect your child from gang activity within community schools. Learn from CCSDPD on how to steer kids from joining or affiliating with these criminal groups.

8th Annual Vitalant Blood Drive

  • Date: Sunday, Feb. 17
  • Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Location: Directly behind the museum in the back parking lot.

Movie screening: The Traitor

  • Date: Wednesday, March 4
  • Time: 6 p.m.
  • Location: The Mob Museum’s historic courtroom.
  • Cost: Free for Members and with Museum Admission.
  • Speaker: Frank Panessa, a retired DEA agent who worked on the case will make remarks during intermission and after the screening.
  • Description: Nominated for the Palme D’Or and the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival, “The Traitor” tells the story of Tommaso Buscetta, the man who brought down Italy’s Cosa Nostra. This two-hour, 35-minute R-rated film is in Italian and will have English subtitles.

Wildlife Trafficking: The International Epidemic of Poaching

  • Date: Saturday, March 7
  • Time: 12 p.m.
  • Location: Organized Crime Today Exhibit on the first floor at The Mob Museum.
  • Cost: Free for Museum Members or with Museum Admission.
  • Description: Journalist Rachel Nuwer, the author of “Poached: Inside the Dark World of Wildlife Trafficking,” explores the seedy underbelly of the multibillion-dollar contraband industry of illegal wildlife trade, tracking down poachers, criminal kingpins and illicit users. A large demand for exotic animals—for jewelry, pets, medicine, meat, trophies and more—is driving a poaching epidemic and threatening the continued existence of many species. The event will be presented in a videoconference format.

Free Community Safety Forum: Community-Oriented Policing

  • Date: Sunday, March 15
  • Time: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Location: In the Historic Courtroom on the second floor.
  • Cost: Free, including free Museum admission, thanks to sponsorship provided by NV Energy. The Mob Museum will provide live streaming of the presentations online.
  • Description: Learn how LVMPD is working to open lines of communication with underserved neighborhoods through their Community-Oriented Policing methods.

The Numbers Racket: One Woman’s Story of the Illegal Street Lottery in Detroit

  • Date: Thursday, March 19
  • Time: 7 to 8 p.m. followed by a book signing
  • Location: Historic Courtroom.
  • Cost: Free for Members or with Museum Admission.
  • Description: Novelist and Professor Bridgett Davis shares the triumphant story of her mother, who ran an illegal street lottery in Detroit for more than thirty years. Fannie Davis’ numbers business provided a comfortable life for her children, who grew up in a loving home, attended the best schools and wore the best clothes. But Fannie’s success required determination, ingenuity and courage in a risk-laden environment, all while fending off rivals and avoiding law enforcement’s watchful eye.
