LAS VEGAS (April 2026) – DRI, in partnership with the National Atomic Testing Museum, invites the Las Vegas community to an out-of-this-world, family-friendly celebration of science and pop culture at “May the Science Be with You” on Friday, May 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Combining the wonder of the Star Wars universe with the power of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM), “May the Science Be with You” will feature interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities, behind-the-scenes lab tours with scientists from DRI and a live music from Peaceful Retreat.
Guests of all ages can enjoy themed experiences such as Padawan training and photo opportunities with Star Wars fan and charity groups, as well as explore booths from community partners and indulge in a selection of local food trucks. In addition, all attendees will receive complimentary entry to the Atomic Museum from 4 to 7 p.m. on the day of the event.
“May the Science Be with You is a special opportunity for families to engage in STEAM activities, engage with scientists, tour DRI science labs and for kids and adults to experience first-hand how fascinating a career in science might be,” said Detra Page, DRI communications manager. “We are excited to partner with the National Atomic Testing Museum to provide families with a complimentary fun and educational event.”
“Building on the success of last year’s event, ‘May the Science Be With You’ continues to ignite curiosity and excitement around STEAM for learners of all ages, in an engaging and memorable way,” said Matt Malinowski, director of exhibits and engagement, National Atomic Testing Museum. “Through our ongoing partnership with DRI, we’re creating immersive, hands-on experiences that show how science connects to the world around us and inspire the next generation of innovators and explorers.”
This complimentary event will take place on the DRI campus, located at 755 E. Flamingo Road. Advanced registration is not required; costumes are encouraged. For more information, click here.
ABOUT DRI
We are Nevada’s non-profit research institute, founded in 1959 to empower experts to focus on science that matters. We work with communities across the state –and the world– to address their most pressing scientific questions. We’re proud that our scientists continuously produce solutions that better human and environmental health.
Scientists at DRI are encouraged to follow their research interests across the traditional boundaries of scientific fields, collaborating across DRI and with scientists worldwide. All faculty support their own research through grants, bringing in nearly $5 to the Nevada economy for every $1 of state funds received. With more than 600 scientists, engineers, students, and staff across our Reno and Las Vegas campuses, we have conducted more than $59 million in sponsored research focused on improving peoples’ lives in 2025 alone. At DRI, science isn’t merely academic – it’s the key to future-proofing our communities and building a better world. For more information, please visit www.dri.edu.
