Moms and Sons to Build 65 beds on Saturday, Sept. 19 as Part of Ultimate Gift, YMSL’s Annual Philanthropic Event

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 8, 2026) – Area high school young men and their moms will join together through Young Men’s Service League Las Vegas (YMSL) to build 65 beds for local children in need as part of a distinctive service project supported by a Youth Engagement Grant from 9/11 Day, funded by AmeriCorps. The bed build will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19, at Terra Contracting.
Through the grant, YMSL Las Vegas will learn about Sept. 11, 2001, and serve alongside Sleep in Heavenly Peace in honor and remembrance of the day. The project is part of YMSL’s annual Ultimate Gift program and will support Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s mission to ensure no child in the community sleeps on the floor. Sleep in Heavenly Peace recruits volunteers to build, assemble and deliver beds to children and families in need, with each recipient also receiving a new pillow and bedding.
In addition to building the beds, YMSL Las Vegas is inviting the community to help outfit them through a bedding drive Monday, Sept. 14 through Friday, Sept. 18. Community members can purchase new bedding from the chapter’s Amazon Wish List and bring donations to Avison Young, 10845 Griffith Peak Drive, Suite 100, Las Vegas, NV 89135. Every donated item will help provide local children with a safe, comfortable place to sleep.
As the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, approaches, YMSL is continuing its partnership with 9/11 Day for the third consecutive year. YMSL Las Vegas was selected to receive a portion of the organization’s grant to support its Ultimate Gift service project and leadership programming, using service and good deeds to teach young men about the events of 9/11.
YMSL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit national volunteer organization consisting of young men in grades nine through 12 and their moms. While YMSL members participate in service projects throughout the year, the annual Ultimate Gift is a special project dedicated to helping a community organization accomplish something it could not otherwise complete without significant volunteer support. Inspired by Jim Stovall’s novel “The Ultimate Gift,” the program encourages young men to develop a lifelong commitment to serving others.
“Building these beds means 65 local children will have a place of their own to rest, dream and feel at home,” said Suzette Miranda, president, YMSL Las Vegas. “As we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, this project gives our young men an opportunity to honor the day through action. Working alongside their moms and Sleep in Heavenly Peace, they’ll see firsthand how coming together in service can make a meaningful difference for families right here in our community.”
The anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks has become the largest day of service in America. The 9/11 Day organization helped establish Sept. 11 as a federally recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance, engaging millions of Americans in volunteerism and good deeds that rekindle the spirit of unity that brought the country together following the attacks.
AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, provides opportunities for Americans of all backgrounds to serve their country, address pressing challenges and strengthen communities through service programs and collaborations, including the Youth Engagement Grant with 9/11 Day.

Members of YMSL are moms and their teenage sons who volunteer together to serve their local communities during his four years of high school.
