SALT LAKE CITY (August 2025) – YESCO, the 105-year-old company known for creating, repairing and maintaining internationally recognizable signs, announces the completion of a major retrofit to the historic marquee at the Granada Theatre in The Dalles, Oregon. Originally built in 1929 as part of a national initiative by Universal Film Corporation to showcase “talkies,” early films offering synchronized sound, the Moorish revival theatre’s marquee now features cutting-edge technology while preserving its historic art deco-style charm.
The project involved the removal of two existing reader boards and the installation of two new single-faced, full-color electronic message center (EMC) measuring 4 feet tall by 15 feet wide. Engineered with a 6-millimeter pixel pitch for ultra-clear visuals, the 1,120-pound display was manufactured using technology from Watchfire.
Designed, fabricated and installed by YESCO, the marquee retrofit enables the Granada Theatre to better engage the community by promoting both theatre events and broader citywide happenings. Located in The Dalles’ downtown corridor, the Granada Theatre remains a cultural cornerstone and symbol of the city’s rich entertainment past.
“The updated marquee not only honors the Granada Theatre’s storied past but also strengthens its role as a vibrant hub for the community,” said Jeff Young, executive vice president, YESCO. “This project ensures that the theatre continues to shine as a beacon of culture and history for generations to come.”
