LAS VEGAS (May 8, 2024) – The Underground speakeasy and distillery inside The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, proudly announces it received top honors at the esteemed American Distilling Institute’s (ADI) 2024 International Spirits Competition. The awards, which span several categories, represent significant achievements and further establish The Underground as a leader in craft spirits.

In an impressive showing, The Underground’s signature Huckleberry Hideout Moonshine received the prestigious “Best of Class – Distilled – Specialty Spirit” award, “Best of Category – Distilled – Moonshine” award and a “Double Gold Medal.” These honors underscore the distillery’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the art of moonshine production.

Evaluated by a panel of spirits experts, judges noted Huckleberry Hideout as having a “Vibrant finish. Quite delightful. Very tasty with no artificial notes,” as well as its “gorgeous cassis/port color in the glass” and “good berry aroma.”

Additionally, The Goodfella’s Vanilla Moonshine was awarded a “Silver Medal,” showcasing the distillery’s ability to infuse classic flavors with a modern twist, appealing to a diverse palate of spirit enthusiasts.

Judges noted “The first impression is creamy and sweet with a faint French vanilla hint, some toasted oak,” as well as having “a light body with a medium finish that doesn’t overwhelm, allowing you to take another sip. This is at a good sweetness level.”

The Museum has also previously received acclaim for its premium spirits, being awarded “Best of Class” and a “Double Gold Medal” for its Huckleberry Hideout Moonshine in the 2023 Central Coast Wine and Spirits Competition, a “Double Gold Medal” for its house-distilled Signature Moonshine in 2019 by The Fifty Best and winning first place in the category of “Best Moonshine” at the 2020 International Whiskey Competition.

“’We are proud and honored to have our moonshines recognized by the industry’s leading trade association,” said David Vondrasek, distillery manager, The Mob Museum. “It further inspires us to curate world-class, Prohibition-inspired recipes, and it’s a gratifying affirmation of our team’s spirit and creativity in each bottle we produce.”

ABOUT THE UNDERGROUND
The Underground is an immersive Prohibition history exhibition featuring a speakeasy, distillery and private VIP room in the basement of The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. Artifacts from the 1920s and 1930s tell the intriguing story of the Prohibition era, which not only saw a proliferation of bootlegged booze and the meteoric growth of organized crime outfits but also had a profound, lasting impact on society, specifically making way for modern cocktail culture. A seasonal cocktail menu gives guests the opportunity to try contemporary takes on classic Prohibition-era cocktails. The menu and atmosphere have landed the speakeasy on several “best cocktail bars in Las Vegas” lists. Distillery tours allow participants to learn about Prohibition and its impact on a variety of spirits and drinking habits while tasting a few of the Museum’s moonshines. The distilling program has received various accolades, including Best Moonshine at the 2020 International Whiskey Competition. Complimentary entrance to The Underground is granted at the secret side door to visitors who know the password, which is published daily on Instagram Stories @MobMuseum_Underground.
