LAS VEGAS (May 2025) – The Atomic Museum announces the launch of its new late-night event series, Radioactivity After Dark (RAD), on Thursday, May 15. A new way to discover science and history in a relaxed and approachable setting, each RAD event will feature exclusive talks with distinguished guest speakers, art stations, compelling programming and an opportunity to view artifacts not regularly on public display.
The inaugural RAD program will include a discussion titled Atomic Fossils: A History of Radiocarbon Dating with Dr. Lauren Parry from Tule Springs National Monument. Developed in the 1940s by atomic scientist Dr. Willard Libby, who later won the Nobel Prize, the radiocarbon dating method was first tested on a large scale in the 1960s right in the Las Vegas Valley at Tule Springs. Dr. Parry will explore how this atomic breakthrough reshaped the fields of geology, paleontology and archaeology.
Additionally, guests will receive the opportunity to view historic film reels released by the Federal Civil Defense Administration during the Atomic Age, explore the museum’s galleries after hours and participate in art and game stations. The museum’s gift shop will also offer snacks and soft drinks.
“This new series lets us reimagine the museum experience after dark while creating space for dialogue, creativity and community,” said Matt Malinowski, director of education, Atomic Museum. “Whether you’re a science enthusiast, a history buff or just looking for a unique night out, RAD offers something unexpected.”
RAD events will continue on select Thursday nights throughout the year. With limited space, advance registration is recommended. Tickets are available for $15 per person and this series is open to all ages but recommended for guests 18 and older. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
