LAS VEGAS (August 2021) – “Warrior Spiritwas named “Best Documentary” at the Las Vegas Premiere Film Festival held early this month and will be screened at the upcoming Albuquerque Film + Music Experience on Friday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time and at Toronto’s imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival all day on Saturday, Oct. 23. Both festivals will be presented in a virtual format this year, and anyone may purchase tickets to attend.

“Warrior Spirit” is a feature-length documentary production, presented by Warrior CBD and made by D-House Entertainment, chronicling the compelling story of Nicco Montaño, the UFC’s first Native American champion, as she prepared to defend her featherweight title against Valentina Shevchenko.

The film reveals how the extreme weight-cutting regimen Montaño endured to make weight for a 2018 fight with Shevchenko nearly cost her life. Exclusive footage from “Warrior Spirit” has been featured on the award-winning HBO show “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” as part of a segment about the dangers of extreme weight-cutting. The film also examines other issues surrounding the MMA industry, such as fighter pay, insurance and unionization. Featuring some of the biggest names in combat sports, “Warrior Spirit” also includes footage of UFC President Dana White, MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, UFC champion Valentina Shevchenko, UFC fighter Justin Gaethje and UFC Performance Institute Director of Nutrition Clint Wattenberg.

The film represents the fourth feature-length documentary by award-winning documentary filmmaker and director Landon Dyksterhouse. Executive producers on the film are Jason Bowles, Nancy Murphy-Bowles and Landon Dyksterhouse.
