WHAT:
1923 Prohibition Bar at Mandalay Bay invites guests to celebrate National Mint Julep Day on Monday, May 30. The mint julep cocktail is a standout classic bourbon cocktail on the 1923 Prohibition Bar menu made with Woodford Reserve bourbon, fresh mint leaves, house-made sugar syrup and garnished with powdered sugar and a sprig of mint.

This classic cocktail can be traced back to a number of fascinating origin stories, starting with the name hailing from Europe where the cocktail was used as a medicinal blend of herbs and spirits. In the 1800s, the libation also gained popularity as a morning beverage for horse farmers to help relieve pain lieu of traditional medicine. The bourbon was noted for soothing aches while sugar would provide energy and mint would “help open the eyes,” according to these horse farmers. Today, the cocktail is famous for its association with the Kentucky Derby.

Guests who purchase a mint julep cocktail on May 30 will also receive a 20 percent discount on any of the admission packages at the adjacent Minus5º ICEBAR.

WHO:
The new, Prohibition-themed 1923 Prohibition Bar, is a private, hidden, modern speakeasy, serving bourbon spirits and signature barrel-aged specialty cocktails. The elegant venue also hosts live burlesque shows, live rock band karaoke and bourbon education and tasting classes.
