TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES HOST BEN MANKIEWICZ TO KICK OFF SUMMER
MOVIE SERIES AT THE MOB MUSEUM

LAS VEGAS (May 2019) – Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Primetime Host Ben
Mankiewicz will be present to provide a special introduction to The Mob Museum’s “Summer Movie Series: Classic Gangster Flicks,” on Monday, June 3. These iconic 1930s films will be screened in the Museum’s historic courtroom each Monday night throughout the month of June. Each film will be preceded by a short presentation by Museum staff providing historical context and eye-opening insights.
Mankiewicz will introduce the series’ first film, “Little Caesar,” at 6 p.m. on June 3.
Considered one of the greatest gangster films ever produced, “Little Caesar” stars Edward G. Robinson, portraying an ambitious thug who claws his way to the top tier of the criminal underworld, making enemies along the way.
When Mankiewicz made his TCM debut in September 2003, he became only the second host hired in the network’s history. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Mankiewicz graduated from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He began his television career as a producer at WJLA, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C., before starting his on-air work as a news reporter and anchor at WCSC, the CBS affiliate in Charleston, SC. He moved south to Miami in 1998 to become a reporter for
Barry Diller’s innovative start-up station, WAMI-TV, and in 1999 and 2000 he was named Best TV News Anchor in South Florida by the weekly newspaper New Times. Mankiewicz then moved to Los Angeles, nearly 75 years after his grandfather, screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, had arrived. As a film critic, Mankiewicz co-hosted the nationally syndicated television series, “At the Movies.” Mankiewicz currently co-hosts the online film review show, “What the Flick?!”

Movie Series include:

• June 10, 6 p.m.: “The Public Enemy” (1931), An Irish-American mobster makes his mark in Chicago during the Prohibition era. Starring James Cagney and Jean Harlow.
• June 17, 6 p.m.: “Scarface” (1932), A ruthless hoodlum rises through the ranks of Chicago organized crime in a story based on the life of real-life mobster Al Capone. Produced by Howard Hughes and starring Paul Muni, Ann Dvorak and George Raft.
• June 24, 6 p.m.: “Angels with Dirty Faces” (1938), A notorious gangster returns to a life of crime after a three-year stint in prison. Starring James Cagney, Pat O’Brien, Humphrey Bogart and Ann Sheridan.
