NEON MUSEUM INTRODUCES THEMED GALLERY TALKS
DURING GENERAL ADMISSION HOURS

Fifteen-minute Gallery Talks Cover Variety of Topics Including General History,
Pop Culture, Art & Design

LAS VEGAS (February 2019) – The Neon Museum introduces Gallery Talks, 15-minute presentations offered by museum interpreters during daytime general admission hours in the Neon Boneyard. Gallery Talks will center on three different themes: “History Highlights” (general history); “Pop Culture Boneyard”; and “Not Just Neon” (art & design).

Gallery Talks were created to enhance guests’ general admission experiences, which allow them to experience the museum’s famous Boneyard outdoor exhibition space at their own pace. Gallery Talks are shorter and less formal than the hour long scheduled guided tours and provide enriching background information, anecdotes from the signs’ diverse history and other insights into the Neon Museum’s world-famous collection.

“As a museum dedicated to preserving and exhibiting historic signs for the enrichment of the public, we created Gallery Talks to engage with the hundreds of guests who join us for general admission each day,” said Cynthia Behr Warso, director of curation and education, Neon Museum. “We understand due to limited availability, not every visitor can take our full-length, guided tours. This new option gives our guests on a tighter schedule the opportunity to encounter illuminating stories behind the signs in our collection. We hope they leave their museum visit with the knowledge that these signs are not only incredibly visually appealing, but also extraordinary historic artifacts.”

Gallery Talks depart from the Neon Museum’s back patio near the newly installed Hard Rock Café guitar. The current schedule is posted in the Boneyard each day. There is no extra charge for participating. Additional themes are scheduled to be launched in the coming months.

On its 2.27-acre campus, the Neon Museum houses an outdoor exhibition space known as the Neon Boneyard (“boneyard” is traditionally the name for an area where items no longer in use are stored); the North Gallery, home to the nighttime augmented-reality, audiovisual spectacle, “Brilliant!”; the Boulevard Gallery outdoor exhibit and event space; and its visitors’ center, housed inside the former La Concha Motel lobby. The museum collection also includes nine restored signs installed as public art throughout downtown Las Vegas. Public education, outreach, research, archival preservation and a grant-funded neon sign survey represent a selection of the museum’s ongoing projects. Both the Neon Boneyard and the La Concha Visitors’ Center are located at 770 Las Vegas Blvd. North in Las Vegas. Click here for tour schedules and pricing information.
